BOOK WEEK -2012

July 25^th 2012 – July 28^th 2012

The school organized its fourth Book Week this year from 25^th July 2012 to 28^th July 2012. Mrs. Chitra Mudgil, a renowned author along with the Principal Mr. Ashok Kumar Pandey inaugurated Book Week by lighting the lamp. A beautiful song emphasizing on the importance of books was presented by the students. Mrs. Mudgil interacted with the students and focused on the importance of books in a person’s life and guided the students that how the books broaden the horizon of a reader. A Newspaper designing competition was organized on the same day as a part of Book Week for classes 9^th and 10^th. A group of 5 students from each section participated in the competition as a team and exhibited their talent.

On 26^th July Mrs. Neelima Sinha, a well established author of children’s publication inaugurated the Book fair in the campus. She has also launched her latest book ‘The Sacred Gem” and engaged herself in the conversation with the students. Children presented reviews on books written by Mrs. Sinha.

On 27^th of July School organized the Valedictory function that encompassed various activities related to Books, reading habits and its beneficial impact through a plethora of activities like, Dramatization of Characters from Shakespeare’s Othello, Play on History of Books, a beautiful Poem by Mr. Gulzar, Book Reviews etc. The Chief Guest Mr. Pankaj Bisht, a well established writer and editor distributed Prizes to voracious readers – students and Teachers. Principal congratulated the teachers and students on the successful completion of the event.

APPRECIATION DAY

Appreciation day is a very special day conducted to honour all the students who made their mark by putting their best foot forward in scholastic as well as non- scholastic arenas .We at Ahlcon believe in motivating our gems to keep up their best efforts and climb the ladder of success. This year also the Appreciation Day was conducted on 23rd July, 2012 for the students of the Middle Section . The students were awarded certificates and trophies for securing A1 grades in scholastic or co–scholastic subjects . This way 187 shining stars of Ahlcon were felicitated .This success story also included some more awards like’ Good Samaritan Award’,’ Tech Whiz Kid’, and Principal’s Award for 'Steady Achiever’ etc. Students who did well in activities like tabla, synthesizer, art, clay moulding, vocal music and dance were also appreciated for their talent. Principal Mr. Ashok Kumar Pandey and In charge Middle School Ms. Anju Gupta along with the teachers appreciated the winners and felt contented to see these young Ahlconites shining in all spheres of student’s life .

Report on Sanskrit Study Tour

If the roots are strong one can achieve all the goals, to have firm grip on the root of our Indian languages Ahlcon International School has taken a pioneer step by sending 23 students on an educational trip from 29^th March’12 – 1^st April’12 to village Muttoor, 10 kms away from Shimoga, Karnataka. Sanskrit HOD Dr. Nirupama and Mr.Shambhu convoyed the children to the village. It was very enterprising to see that even in today’s scientific world, the natives of the village use Sanskrit as one of prime medium of communication among themselves. It was a knowledgeable, entertaining and virtuous experience for the children as well as for the teachers. The children were so fascinated that they vowed to engrain Sanskrit in their day to day life. Principal Mr. Ashok Kumar Pandey was extremely happy to see the children booming with confidence for their culture and heritage, Middle Section In charge Ms. Anju Gupta and Senior Section In charge Ms. Sangeeta Maliwal were very pleased to see the kind of ethical boosting this trip had fetched into the children.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY AT AHLCON INT’L SCHOOL

We at Ahlcon International School believe in appreciating children’s accomplishments and showing them their own special qualities which serves as a torch for their journey to self-discovery. Keeping this in mind on 16^th July, 2012 the school organized Investiture ceremony. The event started with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. The newly appointed members of the school council led by the President Vidushi Sabarwal and the Vice President Akshat Mathur took the oath. The house coordinators of the four houses i.e. Agni, Prithvi, Vayu and Neer presented the badges to the various house prefects while the dignitaries presented badges to the council members. In the similar way the Middle Section council was led by the Head girl Bhavya Sachdeva and Head boy Siddarth Agarwal. The oath was administered by the Principal Mr. Ashok Pandey who congratulated them. He also motivated them to be the role models for their juniors by leaving no stone unturned while performing the duties assigned to them.

NBA and WNBA legends visited AHLCON INTERNATIONAL

NBA Hall of the famer George Gervin and WNBA champion Katie Smith conducted basketball clinic at Ahlcon International on 1st march, 2011, courtesy US Embassy Sports Envoy program. The enthusiasm of the students impressed the legends. This once in lifetime experience prompted the students to promise that they will remember the tips on sideways movements, bending of left knee, light grip on the ball and its release and many other. The 6' 7" tall Gervin asserted that, "It was practice and practice alone that brings greater perfection."

Few Interesting Facts about Earth Day:

Earth Day was started by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson.
The first Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970.
Although Earth Day was started by a senator, it was successful because it was a grassroots movement, not a political mandate.
April 22 was chosen as the date of the first Earth Day because it would not interfere with college students’ academic, social or religious obligations. It’s not during Spring Break or exam time, and it doesn’t conflict with any religious holidays. This was important because students were the main target of Senator Nelson’s “teach-in” campaign. Also, it was a Wednesday, the best part of the week to encourage a large turnout for the environmental rallies held across the country. "It worked out perfectly, because everybody was at work and they all left," Kathleen Rogers, President, Earth Day Network says
The awareness and excitement generated by the first Earth Day led to the development of the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Environmental Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act. It also inspired necessary changes to the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.
The Earth Day Network is an international conglomeration that engages people in nearly 200 countries in community development and environmental activism activities.
Denis Hayes, a student in 1970, helped Senator Nelson organize the first Earth Day. Hayes founded the Earth Day Network, and continues to be its Chairperson. In 1970, he was enrolled at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, which he left after being selected by Senator Gaylord Nelson to organize the first Earth Day. Following the success of the first Earth Day, Hayes founded the Earth Day Network. Hayes continues to chair the board of the international Earth Day Network Denis Hayes has received the US national Jefferson Awards Medal for Outstanding Public Service as well as many other awards. Time Magazine named him as “Hero of the Planet” in 1999.
The first Earth Day (April 22, 1970) had participants and celebrants in two thousand colleges and universities, about ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities. It is believed that some 20 million demonstrators participated.
Earth Day is now the world’s most widely observed secular holiday.
Many politicians linked to environmentally unfriendly industries were voted out of office in the 1970 midterm elections following the first Earth Day.

To add a new dimension to creativity in mathematics, a calendar was released on 13th April,2010 in the premises of Ahlcon International School by the Esteemed chairperson Mrs. Rohini Ahluwalia, Principal Mr. Ashok K. Pandey and Head Senior School,Ms. Rama Srinivasan.
The brainchild of math club incharge, Ms. Chetna Sabharwal , the calendar was designed by the students of math club. The purpose of the calendar is to bring out the beauty of maths and the latent abilities of students through daily practice. It also prepares them for the Olympiads and others math’s competitions. With the simple philosophy of " one math problem a day keeps the math phobia away", It aims to kindle interest and creativity in the students. The Principal, Mr. Pandey appreciated the efforts of the Maths department and the students.

An Orientation programme was organized for the class XII parents on April 10 , 2010 in the premises of AHLCON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, DELHI.The main objective of the programme was to share the collective insights and strategies and to equip the parents with the right way to assess and enhance the performance of their wards.

The programme began with the welcome address by the Principal, Mr.Ashok K. Pandey .He apprised everyone of the issues concerning the board class students.Mr.Puneet Duggal gave a power point presentation showcasing the objectives of the Academic plan for the session 2010-2011.Ms.Rama Srinivasan,Head Senior School, highlighted the various aspects of the vibrant and challenging work opportunities. Mr.S.C.Joshi, the Discipline Incharge,discussed on the ‘Code of Conduct ‘expected from an Ahlconite.

The class teachers of XII were introduced to the parents. An interactive session was held in which the queries of the parents were resolved .A vote of thanks was proposed by Ms SangitaMaliwal.
