WINNING ENTRIES OF ANNUAL PACE-NMNH ESSAY WRITING CONTEST

HT- PACE in association with the National Museum of Natural History(NMNH) organised its annual inter-school essay writing competition on November 9 and in Senior category Payal Khatore of class 8 of Ahlcon international school got First position . The Essay was published on 11 December 12 in HT City.

NBA and WNBA legends visited AHLCON INTERNATIONAL

NBA Hall of the famer George Gervin and WNBA champion Katie Smith conducted basketball clinic at Ahlcon International on 1st march, 2011, courtesy US Embassy Sports Envoy program. The enthusiasm of the students impressed the legends. This once in lifetime experience prompted the students to promise that they will remember the tips on sideways movements, bending of left knee, light grip on the ball and its release and many other. The 6' 7" tall Gervin asserted that, "It was practice and practice alone that brings greater perfection."

Few Interesting Facts about Earth Day:

Earth Day was started by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson.
The first Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970.
Although Earth Day was started by a senator, it was successful because it was a grassroots movement, not a political mandate.
April 22 was chosen as the date of the first Earth Day because it would not interfere with college students’ academic, social or religious obligations. It’s not during Spring Break or exam time, and it doesn’t conflict with any religious holidays. This was important because students were the main target of Senator Nelson’s “teach-in” campaign. Also, it was a Wednesday, the best part of the week to encourage a large turnout for the environmental rallies held across the country. "It worked out perfectly, because everybody was at work and they all left," Kathleen Rogers, President, Earth Day Network says
The awareness and excitement generated by the first Earth Day led to the development of the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Environmental Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act. It also inspired necessary changes to the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.
The Earth Day Network is an international conglomeration that engages people in nearly 200 countries in community development and environmental activism activities.
Denis Hayes, a student in 1970, helped Senator Nelson organize the first Earth Day. Hayes founded the Earth Day Network, and continues to be its Chairperson. In 1970, he was enrolled at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, which he left after being selected by Senator Gaylord Nelson to organize the first Earth Day. Following the success of the first Earth Day, Hayes founded the Earth Day Network. Hayes continues to chair the board of the international Earth Day Network Denis Hayes has received the US national Jefferson Awards Medal for Outstanding Public Service as well as many other awards. Time Magazine named him as “Hero of the Planet” in 1999.
The first Earth Day (April 22, 1970) had participants and celebrants in two thousand colleges and universities, about ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities. It is believed that some 20 million demonstrators participated.
Earth Day is now the world’s most widely observed secular holiday.
Many politicians linked to environmentally unfriendly industries were voted out of office in the 1970 midterm elections following the first Earth Day.

To add a new dimension to creativity in mathematics, a calendar was released on 13th April,2010 in the premises of Ahlcon International School by the Esteemed chairperson Mrs. Rohini Ahluwalia, Principal Mr. Ashok K. Pandey and Head Senior School,Ms. Rama Srinivasan.
The brainchild of math club incharge, Ms. Chetna Sabharwal , the calendar was designed by the students of math club. The purpose of the calendar is to bring out the beauty of maths and the latent abilities of students through daily practice. It also prepares them for the Olympiads and others math’s competitions. With the simple philosophy of " one math problem a day keeps the math phobia away", It aims to kindle interest and creativity in the students. The Principal, Mr. Pandey appreciated the efforts of the Maths department and the students.

An Orientation programme was organized for the class XII parents on April 10 , 2010 in the premises of AHLCON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, DELHI.The main objective of the programme was to share the collective insights and strategies and to equip the parents with the right way to assess and enhance the performance of their wards.

The programme began with the welcome address by the Principal, Mr.Ashok K. Pandey .He apprised everyone of the issues concerning the board class students.Mr.Puneet Duggal gave a power point presentation showcasing the objectives of the Academic plan for the session 2010-2011.Ms.Rama Srinivasan,Head Senior School, highlighted the various aspects of the vibrant and challenging work opportunities. Mr.S.C.Joshi, the Discipline Incharge,discussed on the ‘Code of Conduct ‘expected from an Ahlconite.

The class teachers of XII were introduced to the parents. An interactive session was held in which the queries of the parents were resolved .A vote of thanks was proposed by Ms SangitaMaliwal.
