CELEBRATING
WORLD SPARROW DAY
Our
school has been identified as one of the
nodal schools to monitor and conserve sparrows in our area by the Department of Environment and Forests. To
celebrate World Sparrow Day , we were invited to Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dixit’s residence on 20th March
2013.
Ms. Sunanda S. Kumar along with five children of eco club from classes VI-VII attended the function. It was an effort to voice concern about the declining number of sparrows in our country. The chief minister released a book on sparrows and urged for immediate attention to save sparrows. Around 27 schools participated in the function and exhibited posters, nests, poems, slogans etc to create awareness about sparrows. Children were very enthusiastic to be a part of this endeavour. They interacted with the Chief Minister and updated her about our school’s initiative to protect sparrows. Children along with their teacher enjoyed nature walk in the gardens and studied about various nesting sites, bird feeders, types of plants, vermi composting etc. Eco Roots foundation gifted few bamboo framed nests and booklets on sparrows to all the schools. The journey was an eye opener for the students and teachers to protect house sparrows.
