Bibox Innovation Lab: A Unique Learning Program

We, at Ahlcon International School, are always keen to look at enhancing the student’s capability to be creative in their thought process and make them ready for the 21st century learning.

As a part of the ongoing endeavour to encourage experiential learning and to develop scientific temperament among the students, we joined hands with Evobi Automation an organization recognized by Government of India (Department of Science and Technology) and decided to introduce a very unique learning program i.e. Bibox Innovation Lab for the students of class VI to VIII.

On 31^stof July 14 the zero session was conducted which was attended by the students of entire middle section. The resource person Mr.V.N Chandran along with his team first exposed the students to the concept of Bibox (brain in the box) a hardware and explained it’s working which triggered students logical thinking and enabled them to spot the new situations or problems in daily life and come up with solutions to those by using the Bibox. They also showed the various models made by the students of other schools like Milk Boiler, Dish Washer, Blind Stick etc. The session was very interactive and our students actively participated and gave intelligent answers to their questions.

This is a holistic program that goes beyond the text book curriculum, enables the students to build their original ideas into a real machine and provides long term value addition to their knowledge and the students would be able to innovate and showcase their hidden talents in the form of unique models.

NBA and WNBA legends visited AHLCON INTERNATIONAL

NBA Hall of the famer George Gervin and WNBA champion Katie Smith conducted basketball clinic at Ahlcon International on 1st march, 2011, courtesy US Embassy Sports Envoy program. The enthusiasm of the students impressed the legends. This once in lifetime experience prompted the students to promise that they will remember the tips on sideways movements, bending of left knee, light grip on the ball and its release and many other. The 6' 7" tall Gervin asserted that, "It was practice and practice alone that brings greater perfection."

Few Interesting Facts about Earth Day:

Earth Day was started by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson.
The first Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970.
Although Earth Day was started by a senator, it was successful because it was a grassroots movement, not a political mandate.
April 22 was chosen as the date of the first Earth Day because it would not interfere with college students’ academic, social or religious obligations. It’s not during Spring Break or exam time, and it doesn’t conflict with any religious holidays. This was important because students were the main target of Senator Nelson’s “teach-in” campaign. Also, it was a Wednesday, the best part of the week to encourage a large turnout for the environmental rallies held across the country. "It worked out perfectly, because everybody was at work and they all left," Kathleen Rogers, President, Earth Day Network says
The awareness and excitement generated by the first Earth Day led to the development of the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Environmental Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act. It also inspired necessary changes to the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.
The Earth Day Network is an international conglomeration that engages people in nearly 200 countries in community development and environmental activism activities.
Denis Hayes, a student in 1970, helped Senator Nelson organize the first Earth Day. Hayes founded the Earth Day Network, and continues to be its Chairperson. In 1970, he was enrolled at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, which he left after being selected by Senator Gaylord Nelson to organize the first Earth Day. Following the success of the first Earth Day, Hayes founded the Earth Day Network. Hayes continues to chair the board of the international Earth Day Network Denis Hayes has received the US national Jefferson Awards Medal for Outstanding Public Service as well as many other awards. Time Magazine named him as “Hero of the Planet” in 1999.
The first Earth Day (April 22, 1970) had participants and celebrants in two thousand colleges and universities, about ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities. It is believed that some 20 million demonstrators participated.
Earth Day is now the world’s most widely observed secular holiday.
Many politicians linked to environmentally unfriendly industries were voted out of office in the 1970 midterm elections following the first Earth Day.
